The Young Girls of Rochefort

Allowed 126 minutes 1967 7.7

The twin sisters Delphine and Solange Garnier live in the city of Rochefort where they run a dance school and dream of the great love. When a dancing group arrives at the city to perform on the square at a large festival, the sisters have the opportunity to participate, which leads to major changes. At the premiere, Andrew Sarris wrote in Village Voice: “With all that is wrong with The Young Girls of Rochefort, it is amazing how much pleasure it provides. I have enormous respect for Demy's effort, simply because it is so much easier to make a cosmic statement full of open-ended ambiguities than to turn out a reasonably entertaining musical.”
