Clara, now in her forties, has lived her entire life under religious and social oppression in a remote village in Costa Rica. Her mother, who tries to prevent her development as a woman, has also denied her treatment for her scoliosis as it is seen as a sign that she is in a special relationship with God, and that she thus has healing powers. But when a young man comes to the village, desires and powers are brought to life in Clara that can no longer be suppressed. Richly Guldbagge-awarded Clara Sola was also selected as the Costa Rican entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards.
