Thursday premiere w.3-4
Women's gatherings in Finnish saunas, a western movie featuring Alec Baldwin among others, and a documentary about the relationship between Denmark and Greenland are some of the exciting content in this week's newly released films on Viddla.
It is a very current and hot topic they are addressing, the documentary filmmakers who made The White Gold of Greenland. The documentary is from 2025 and explores whether Greenland has always been an expense for Denmark, or if it has actually also been valuable for the Danes. The film is so controversial that the editor-in-chief of DR's news department was forced to resign after it was published.
In Once Upon a Time in the Midlands, we meet the small-time criminal Jimmy, who one day sees several of his friends and family appear on a talk show on TV. One of them is his former flame Shirley, and her comments about her current boyfriend give Jimmy hope for a reunion. The film is a British romantic comedy directed by Shane Meadows.
Miss Meadows is no ordinary well-mannered and sweet schoolteacher. In her free time, she sees herself as a sort of benefactor who corrects much of what is wrong in the world. Things get especially complicated when she becomes romantically involved with the local sheriff. Katie Holmes stars in this thriller.
We get very close to both bodies and emotions in the Finnish documentary Smoke Sauna Sisterhood. In the darkness, these women share their deepest secrets and intimate experiences, in an attempt to rid themselves of the shame they feel and free themselves. The film has won several film awards.
A young boy receives a serious sentence, and his grandfather helps him escape from prison across the border into Mexico. Joel Souza is the director, and Alec Baldwin plays the role of the grandfather in the western drama Rust set in 1880s Wyoming.
In the Swedish documentary På Hvitfeldska bodde vi from 2023, it is about activists who protested when George W. Bush arrived in Gothenburg in 2001. 459 people were trapped behind a wall, and 10 hours later it was over. Again, there were 15 rolls of black-and-white film left.
