When Anna (Bel Powley) is 16 years old, she experiences the real world for the first time, outside the attic she has spent her entire childhood locked inside. She has been held captive by a man she only knows as "Daddy" (Brad Dourif). He has justified the captivity with the story of a life-threatening, child-eating creature called Wildling is waiting outside the house.
