Cézanne et moi

7 yrs 109 minutes 2016 6.1

40 years of mutual admiration, artistic competition and deep friendship. As teenagers, they shared everything: Hope, doubt, fears and aspirations, the dream of honor and wealth. That Paul Cézanne came from a rich family and Émile Zola from a poor made no difference. Together they left Aix-en-Provence for Paris, Montmartre and Batignolles. There they lived a bohemian life with women, absinthe and culture. But their lives took different paths and now Émile is a successful author and Paul is a not fully-successful artist. When Émile borrows a bit too much from his friend's real life for his book L'Oeuvre, Paul becomes so angry that their friendship is threatened to be lost. In Cézanne och Zola Guillaume Canet and Guillaume Gallienne play the two French cultural legends author Émile Zola and artist Paul Cézanne in this beautiful 19th century drama.
