At Eternity's Gate
At eternity’s gate portrays the final years in the life of legendary artist Vincent van Gogh. His last years where marked by great productivity with hundreds of oil paintings of the French landscape in his unique style, but also by great mental fragility. He looked for solitude on long hikes through southern France and the only people he felt close to where his artist friend Gauguin and his elder brother Theo. When he cut off one ear during a fit of rage, he lost his friendship with Gauguin and was taken to an institution where he met a priest who tried to get him to understand his own nature. Willem Dafoe plays the lead role as Van Gogh and was nominated for an Oscar for best performance by an actor in leading role.
