Christian is a respected chief for a museum of modern art in Stockholm. The museum will now bring in a new exhibition in the form of a square in which only goodness prevails. In order to clarify and market the project, an advertising agency is engaged with its own interpretation of the artwork. At the same time, Christian gets robbed and looses both mobile and wallet, which leads to a kind of moral dilemma that is well recognized by Östlunds other films. Director Ruben Östlund has won several Guldbaggar, and a Gold Palm for his previous films and The square has been nominated for both an Oscar and a Golden Globe in the categories for Best Foreign Language Film of the Year 2018.
