This drama is based on true events. The Strelzyk and Wetzel families live in the 70's DDR and have done quite well, but the lack of freedom wears on them. They decide to flee to the west in a homemade hot air balloon. While the father of the Wertzel family is located in the basement to sew on the balloon, the father of the Strelzyk family does all the planning. Due to a previously unsuccessful escape attempt, Stasi is on to them. "The excitement increases skillfully until the last attempt to get the balloon to lift, as they have Stasis agents breathing down their neck" writes Jan-Olov Andersson in Aftonbladet.
