In the Italian director Franco Zeffirelli's 1996 film version of Charlotte Brontë's immortal novel, Anna Paquin plays the orphaned child Jane Eyre, and Charlotte Gainsbourg in the role as the adult Jane. At Thornfield Hall, where Jane arrives to be the governess of the french girl Adèle, dark family secrets are hidden. Jane and the landlord Edward Rochester fall in love, and the future seems bright to Jane who grew up without love or security.
