Alfred Hitchcock's triangle drama takes place in 1830s Australia. The exiled British citizen Sam Flusky (Joseph Cotten) has served his sentence for murder, in a colony in Australia. He is now a wealthy man and lives with his murder victim's sister Lady Henrietta (Ingrid Bergman) on a grand farm. One day, the couple is visited by the governor's nephew and he falls instantly in love with the alcoholic Lady Henrietta. This will be the prelude to an exciting psychological story because what or who is really trying to drive Lady Henrietta crazy?
