On August 25, 1944, allied forces reached the city limits of Paris and the city was lost to the besieging German troops. Hitler's orders are crystal clear: Paris is on fire and explosives have been placed at all landmarks. In a final attempt to save the city, the Swedish consul Raoul Nordling seeks out his friend, the German officer Cholitz, for a conversation.
