At the Academy Awards in 1963, Ingmar Bergman was awarded an Oscar for the second time. This time around, he won the category Best film foregin language film. Through a Glass Darkly is about a shattered family who reunites for a day on an isolated summer island. A father, a son, a daughter and her husband. Everyone is a captive in their own mind and everyone conceals a deeply hidden need for contact. This need and their longing for tenderness will soon lead to painful showdowns.
